When drawing up a Will first think of who you would like to deal with your estate. This could be a trusted friend or relative, or a bank or a firm of solicitors like us. A professional Executor will charge for their services. If you don't have a Will, your estate will be distributed in accordance with the intestacy rules which are laid down by an act of Parliament. This may not be what you would have wanted.
The next step is to consider all your assets. This is to see if Inheritance Tax is something that needs to be considered. Then you should consider how your estate is to be distributed. You may wish to leave single items to friends or family members or to leave some money to a charity. You can also divide your estate between, for example, your children. The choice is up to you.
We can also deal with the administration of an estate. This will involve obtaining a value of the total size of the estate and, if required, applying for a grant of representation. The estate's assets can the be collected in and distributed in accordance with the Will or, if there is no Will, the rules of intestacy.
