About Marshall Hatchick

Marshall Hatchick was founded in London on 8 May 1995 by Nicholas Marshall and Keith Hatchick, both of whom had been partners with major city firms in London. Their objective was to offer quality specialist legal services in an approachable and practical manner in both business and commercial property. The partners’ aim was to develop a practice that was able to combine the experience and depth that one would expect of a larger establishment, with the personal and friendly approach of a smaller specialist firm.

In 1996 an office in Woodbridge Suffolk was opened which also provided residential conveyancing and private client work.

In 2001 Michael Sparrow (formerly the managing partner of Gotelee & Goldsmith in Ipswich) joined the firm as resident partner in Woodbridge, bringing a wealth of experience and connections in Ipswich and Suffolk generally.

Marshall Hatchick subsequently merged with Josselyns in 2005, further expanding its portfolio to include Private Client, Wills, Trusts and Probate work. Josselyns’ enviable reputation spanned over 150 years, offering personal high quality legal services throughout East Anglia.

James Robbins joined the firm as a Partner in April 2007.

The provision of such level of service remains the firm’s core commitment. The Partners work closely with their team of solicitors and staff to offer clients prompt, efficient and professional legal services.

Private Client, Wills & Probate

In 2005 the firm took over a trust and tax planning practice in Suffolk known as Josselyns. This was a three partner firm which had been practising for 150 years with a well-deserved reputation for excellence in trust administration, tax planning and private client work generally.

At this time, Denise Church joined the practice with her team of private client lawyers. Denise is a respected specialist in trust and private client work generally and was, until only recently, the Chair of the Suffolk branch of STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) a post that she had held for over nine years, as well as acting as an external deputy appointed by the Court of Protection.

In January 2008 she was joined by Jennifer Humphreys, who originally qualified as a solicitor in Birmingham but decided to return to her native Suffolk. Jennifer has recently been appointed to the Law Society’s Probate Section Executive Committee. In November 2008 Denise Church became a consultant at the firm. Denise continues to work closely with Jennifer Humphreys and the rest of the Probate, Wills and Trusts Department.

The Private Client team has the expertise to deal with a wide range of matters, including:
          o Wills
o Estate planning, including inheritance tax and capital gains tax
o Administration of deceased’s estates including Grants of Probate
o Deeds of Variation (also known as Deeds of Family Arrangement)
          o Trusts
          o Powers Attorney
          o Court Protection applications
o Advice on care home funding
